Day One

Chapter Forty-Eight

Software; Adobe Premiere Pro.

Project; Evangeline.

Date; Mon 23rd Feb.

On the first day of editing, I uploaded all my rushes into a bin on Premiere. This was all my material I'd filmed before and wanted it all in a safe place where I could start working on it.

I labeled and ordered all the rushes and previewed them to see which clips I wanted to use. I then created a new folder and began assembling the clips into the order I wanted them to be viewed.

I tried to put each clip in a different row to the last, this was to stop them overlapping each other. It also allowed the sound to be seen clearly.

Types Of OS

Chapter Forty-Six

I have been researching lots of title sequences and have come across some very contrasting thriller openers. There is the opening sequence which foreshadows the events in the film, with a few names, companies and the title of the film being shown, sometimes the opening gives away information such as dates and locations. An example of this is Mississippi Burning. There are sound effects and dialogue in this sequence.

Other Opening Sequences can be very abstract and give very little away. The OS to Casino Royale is an animated sequence with music and important names and producers information. We see it is a thriller/action from the use of design and animation showing a man running.
This opening sequence has little dialogue and is almost purely non diegetic music.

Genre & Coffee Films - Task Three [Cont]

Chapter Forty-Three

A presentation on the genres and projects COFFEE FILMS has released.

Link To Coffee Films [HERE]

Coffee Films is a great example of a British Independent Film Company because it started with two people filming on camcorders and has grown into a large successful company.

Coffee Films would distribute Evangeline to film festivals but also try to get cinema release and promote it via Social Networks. To make a larger profit Coffee Films could buy TV licenses and rights to online streaming.

FIlming Through A Keyhole

Chapter Thirty-Five :

'When people say "She's got everything!" - I have my answer, 'I don't have tomorrow.'"

Filming With A Keyhole

To create the idea of having young Evangeline watching her mother through a keyhole it will be important to build a big one to create that effect through the camera. It will most likely be built from cardboard or some tough material and will be big enough to be held in front of the camera.

This would be a great opening shot!

Thriller Costume

Chapter Thirty-Two:

"Impossible only means you haven't found the solution yet."

Costume & Props For Evangeline

For our thriller Evangeline, we need to organise props and costume as we will be shooting on FRIDAY 13th FEBRUARY 2015

We have decided to use a teenage girl to play YOUNG EVANGELINE and we will dress her in a child's dress and put a bow in her hair. To represent her purity we would like her to be in white, we would also like her hair to be tied back into a low pony tail. We will use minimum makeup.
To create YOUNG MICHAEL'S costume we will put a white shirt with a pair of chinos. This will show he is upper class but not modern. He is a older child at the time of MONA'S death. He will have his hair combed over.
We would like MONA to be in the bath at the time of her death so we plan to have her appear nude. Her hair and make up will be free and smudged to show she has been distressed. Her hair will be wet to start and end.
OLDER EVANGELINE, OLDER MICHAEL, And BROOKE Will all be dressed casually in the other part of the OS. They will all be dressed modern.

Meeting With Matt + Paul (Two)

Chapter Thirty

'Be young, be pretty and be prepared to burn the whole world to the ground to get what you want.'

Our Second Meeting with Matt and Paul

On Monday we discussed where and how we were going to film the opening sequence again with the feedback team. We got several pieces of advise of how to film the new plot due to what we can and can't do. 80% of the shots in the first bit will be filmed through the keyhole or as if she is looking through the keyhole into the bathroom. We will catch several shots of the mother passing in front od the door and getting into the bath. She will be laying in the bath as she bleeds out. We still plan to film Evangeline running up the stairs, through the hallway, outside the bathroom and looking around for her mother just cutting the outside shot.

The second half of the opening sequence will remain the same, the four kids being followed in the car. They will all get out of the car and we see the stalker get out of his car and follow to teenagers inside. We are made clear it is Evangeline and her brother with two friends by some dialogue.
